The Colombian Air Force (Fuerza Aérea de Colombia: FAC) plans to have its first domestically manufactured satellite, FACSAT-1, in orbit by July, the FAC said on 8 February.
FACSAT-1 is a cube-like nanosatellite with a 30 m per pixel lens. Its control centre will be located at the ‘Marco Fidel Suárez’ aviation training centre in Cali. The satellite will reportedly be launched from India, most likely from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.
“It’s important for us to have autonomy because we are currently buying images from a third party to monitor our territory,” said General Fernando Losada, head of the FAC’s Aeronautical Education Command.
